MTH1W Grade 9 Mathematics
The de-streamed Grade 9 math course (formerly MPM1D) that every Ontario pathway starts from. It consolidates middle-school arithmetic into real algebra and linear relations, and sets the working habits — showing reasoning, checking units, reading data — that the senior U-level ladder assumes on day one.
Inside the course
Number sense: fractions, integers, powers and exponent rules
Algebraic expressions and solving linear equations
Linear relations: slope, intercepts and graphing
Data literacy: collecting, representing and interpreting data
Measurement and geometric relationships
Financial literacy: budgets, interest and appreciation/depreciation
Where it leads
Leads directly into MPM2D. A solid MTH1W term is the single best predictor of a smooth MCR3U/MHF4U run later — gaps here compound quietly for three years.
PREREQUISITE
None — the Grade 9 entry point.
Assessment & credit
Standard Ontario assessment: 70% coursework, 30% final evaluation. Completion ships as an official transcript, OUAC-listed and recognized by public and private schools.

Small groups, online or in person (Markham campus); semester, summer and winter intakes, scheduled around the student’s Top 6 plan.
