MCF3M Functions and Applications (Grade 11)
The university/college (M) alternative to MCR3U: the same function families — quadratic, exponential, trigonometric — taught through applications rather than proof-style manipulation. A sensible route when MCR3U pacing would cost confidence, or for college-bound pathways.
Inside the course
Quadratic functions: modelling and problem solving
Working with exponents and exponential growth
Trigonometric ratios and applications
Financial applications: compound interest and annuities
Comparing linear, quadratic and exponential models
Where it leads
Leads to MDM4U or college-stream Grade 12 math. Students who later decide on a university STEM program should upgrade through MCR3U instead — plan this early with a mentor.
PREREQUISITE
Assessment & credit
Standard Ontario assessment: 70% coursework, 30% final evaluation. Completion ships as an official transcript, OUAC-listed and recognized by public and private schools.
How we run it
Small groups, online or in person (Markham campus); semester, summer and winter intakes, scheduled around the student’s Top 6 plan.
