ENG3U Grade 11 English (University)
The first university-prep English credit: full literary essays with secondary sources, poetry analysed on its own terms, and the expectation that every claim is argued, not asserted. The single biggest adjustment year for students coming out of ESL.

The analytical essay: thesis, evidence and integration
Novel and drama study, including Shakespeare
Poetry: form, device and close reading
Rhetoric and media analysis
Independent study with a formal written product

Leads to ENG4U — the mark that matters most. ESLEO graduates typically enter here; we pace the essay load accordingly.
PREREQUISITE
Assessment & credit
Standard Ontario assessment: 70% coursework, 30% final evaluation. Completion ships as an official transcript, OUAC-listed and recognized by public and private schools.
How we run it
Small groups, online or in person (Markham campus); semester, summer and winter intakes, scheduled around the student’s Top 6 plan.
