Brian noticed that many elderly people living alone felt lonely due to lack of companionship, so he developed a social robot based on Raspberry Pi and cameras. The robot could conduct voice conversations, play music, remind about medication, and analyze facial expressions and tone in real-time for emotional comfort. After training with hundreds of voice and facial data points, 80% of trial users reported significantly reduced loneliness. The system won a community technology innovation award and added warmth and strength to Brian's UofT application.
