North America registration: enrolling for single credits
For a student already enrolled elsewhere, taking a single credit is far simpler than a full diploma: no transfer, no equivalency assessment, just confirm the course and the section. Only two details need attention — the student number and how the mark travels.
Registration steps

Confirm the course and its prerequisite
Check the prerequisite is already met — MCV4U needs MHF4U, for instance. Without it registration cannot proceed, so this check first saves a round trip.

Supply the OEN, or open a record
Students who have studied in Ontario supply their Ontario Education Number and a recent transcript, and the credit merges into the existing record; students new to Ontario have a record opened and a number assigned.

Choose the section and format
Pick an evening, weekend or summer section, online or onsite, around the existing school load. Students in another time zone confirm the window works at this step.

Enrol and begin
Submit, enrol, and receive the platform account and course outline. Before the first class we walk through how the mark is composed and what submission requires — the two things that decide the result.

Marks upload and transmit
On completion the mark enters the Ontario Student Record and transcript, and — within an application year — transmits to OUAC on Ontario’s scheduled mark-upload dates.

Three things that go wrong
A duplicate student record
A student who has studied in Ontario but does not supply the OEN can end up with a second record, splitting credits across two files. Ask about this at registration.
Missing the mark batch
A course finishing after Ontario’s upload date misses that round of offers. Choose the section by counting back from that date.
The school audit misses the credit
An outside credit is valid, but the school counsellor has to know it exists for the graduation audit to count it. Tell them when the course starts, not in Grade 12.
Common questions
When do single courses start?
Several intakes run through the year, with summer the densest. Students taking a course inside an application year should choose the section by counting back from the mark-upload date rather than by personal convenience.
Can a student audit without the credit?
Yes, as tutoring — supporting a course taken at school, for instance — but that is not a credit course and does not appear on the transcript. Different goals, different products; say which one you want when you enquire.
